Danke.

Israel escalates ethnic cleansing campaign in West Bank

Dear partners,
This past month, we witnessed more relentless killing in Gaza. In May alone, Israel killed 1,240 Palestinians through airstrikes and gunfire (based on Gaza Health Ministry figures). Senior Israeli officials continue to openly declare their intent to carry out ethnic cleansing. Even the prime minister made this clear during a press conference:

One of the most extreme expressions of Israel’s dehumanization of Palestinians is the desecration of bodies. In the Occupied Territories, this practice has become routine, with some soldiers even filming their actions and boasting about them on social media.

Meanwhile, Israeli violence is intensifying across the West Bank: civilians, including children and teenagers, are being killed; entire communities are being forcibly displaced; military raids continue; and settlers carry out attacks with impunity. From the start of the war until 31 May 2025, Israel killed 927 Palestinians in the West Bank – at least 183 of them minors – and forcibly displaced 29 communities from their homes. On 27 January 2025, during a raid in Tulkarm, Israeli forces shot 10-year-old Sadam Rajab as he stood at the entrance to his building. His father, Iyad, rushed to evacuate him under fire. Ten days later, Sadam died of his wounds.

On 9 February 2025, during a raid on Nur Shams Refugee Camp, Israeli soldiers shot and killed Sundus Shalabi, a 20-year-old pregnant woman, as she tried to flee the camp with her husband Yazan and his brother Bilal. Yazan was shot in the head and seriously wounded. Bilal was taken by the soldiers and used as a human shield  including inside the al-Ashqar family home, where the soldiers blew open the front door and killed 21-year-old Rahaf al-Ashqar (pictured). Read the full story

On 22 May, all 150 or so residents of Maghayer a-Deir were forced to abandon their homes after settlers set up an outpost near a home in the community. Two days later, some young residents returned to the community to take apart the structures and gather belongings left behind. While they were working, armed settlers, some of them masked, arrived and attacked the men and the activists who were with them using clubs, throwing stones and even firing in the air. When the Palestinians tried to fend them off by throwing stones, the settlers chased them, surrounded them and attacked them, injuring at least 12 Palestinians and a B’Tselem employee. One of the settlers was also injured. The settlers also smashed phones and stole cameras and computers. The search for injured persons lasted well into the night.  On 5 May, Israel demolished most of the homes in the village of Khirbet Khalet a-Dab’e in Masafer Yatta, in the South Hebron Hills, leaving 49 people – including 27 children – homeless. In the last week of May, settler attacks on the village intensified. Settlers established a new outpost inside the village itself, took over residential caves and intimidated the residents. Fearing for their safety, women and children temporarily fled the area.

On 2 June, B’Tselem held an emergency international media tour with Oscar-winning filmmakers Basel Adra and Yuval Abraham to warn of the imminent threat of expulsion facing this village and others in Masafer Yatta.

Dear partners,
Your support enables us to continue documenting, exposing, and raising awareness of human rights violations in the Occupied Territories. We invite you to donate through our website and take part in the struggle for justice and equality.

May we see better days,
The B’Tselem team

Was meinst Du?
